Please Consider Donating

Those of you who know me as Isabel and Katie Song’s mom may not know that in my professional life, I’m a gynecologic oncologist—I specialize in taking care of women with ovarian, uterine, and cervical cancer.  It is in this capacity that I met Sue Weldon, the founder of Unite for HER.  Sue is a former gymnast (who remembers that our very own Kim Bonus choreographed her first real floor routine!) and long-time coach who is a breast cancer survivor.  She noticed that while women had a lot of support from their physicians and care teams regarding chemotherapy and surgery, there was a real need for complementary treatments.  Unite for HER is a non-profit that is focused on providing resources on topics like nutrition, acupuncture, massage, yoga, counseling, and others to help breast and ovarian cancer survivors enhance their wellness, and to care for the whole woman—emotionally, spiritually, and physically.  At a recent event at Fox Chase, Unite for HER provided breast and ovarian cancer survivors sessions on massage, Reiki, meditation, nutrition, beauty after cancer therapy, and professional counseling.  The organization provided each participant a “wellness passport” to cover one year of treatment costs from partner wellness providers, as well as subscriptions for boxes of organic produce to support their healthy eating as they recover from the effects of therapy.

The Pink Invitational is actually my favorite invitational of the year. Not only is it Unite for HER’s biggest fundraiser, but it serves as a great outreach opportunity to encourage breast health awareness among girls and young women, teaching about the importance of lifelong wellness.  100% of the net proceeds go directly to caring for the physical and emotional needs of breast and ovarian cancer patients.

Would you consider making a donation to Unite for HER?  Even $5 or $10 can make a real difference to a cancer survivor.  If you are interested, please go to our fundraiser page to donate.
